How To Take Charge Of Our Health? (Earth Day)

Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Every year on this day, people host different events to remember the Earth. But Earth Day is not just about appreciating the environment—it’s about preserving it as well. As we take care of the earth’s health, it will do so for us.

Did you know that the environment can directly affect our health and wellbeing? Conditions of poor air quality, such as smog, can contribute to respiratory and heart disease. Rising baseline temperatures can harm the elderly, children, and those who suffer from respiratory health.

What we need to do is understand the linkage between the environment and our health and take action. The common spread of pollutants is through the air. Global warming from greenhouse gas emissions can extend the geographic range of any diseases and the pathogens they carry. People infected with these pathogens can spread them widely and quickly in densely populated urban areas and via global air travel. With this in mind, here are some tips we can protect ourselves from these pathogens.

A strong immune system might be one of the most common ways to prevent and fend off the possibility of diseases. The innate immunity consists of white blood cells that move through blood and tissue throughout your body, looking for foreign invaders such as bacteria or viruses and attack them. What can you do to improve your immune system? Get the right nutrients in your body.

#1 Probiotics: Promotes the growth of healthy bacteria in your gut and prevents the population of harmful ones. Probiotics in the Gastrointestinal(GI) tract help to reinforce the barrier function of the intestinal lining, lowering the chance of bacteria in the intestines entering into the bloodstream. This may decrease infections and immune-related reactions, thus supporting the health of the immune system.

#2 Prebiotics: Are the nutrients that help increase the population of beneficial microbes. Acts as food for probiotics.

#3 Vitamin C: Produce necessary antibodies that bind invading microbes to neutralize them. The antioxidant in Vitamin C is the strongest and fights free radicals in the body, which may help prevent or delay diseases.

#4 Antioxidants: Neutralizes the overabundance of inflammation in the body. Inflammation is an important immune system function. But, when out of control, it can cause serious damage.

Here are two immune boosters you can grab the nutrients from.
